Analysis of Public and Private Cloud Computing

Public Cloud computing means relying on third parties to offer efficient IT services over the Internet as needed. On the other hand, Private Cloud computing reassures the organization that their information and processes are more secure since everything is managed internally. The analysis of Public and Private Cloud Computing is given below in terms of following points.

(i)         Privacy and security:
Based on the definition of a Private Cloud and Public Cloud, Private Clouds will immediately seem to be more secure than public Clouds because of how the infrastructure is designed. It gives the organization more control over their policies and security. This is especially great for companies that do specialized research and development or those that work for the government. Furthermore, additional security measures may be installed. Also companies with huge databases can greatly benefit from using the private cloud. Public Cloud providers are much larger targets for hackers than private Clouds.

(ii)        Scalability:
On the issue of scalability, the public cloud is more efficient. Unlike the private cloud whose scalability potential is restricted or limited due to the company’s limited premises, the public cloud shares more common resources which make it more scalable. The client-business does not have to worry about additional servers as this is the job of the provider.

(iii)       Virtualization knowledge:
Though there have been attempts at creating a company’s own private cloud, the problem comes in when there is the lack of expertise and experience of the employees. The staff that handles this area should be knowledgeable. This is not a problem for the public cloud.

(iv)       Pricing:
The private cloud is, obviously, more costly that the other one. If the company does not need the advanced security features and network latency, then the public cloud will do as it is more affordable. And for now, what is most necessary to do for companies is to start transferring their files to the cloud and be able to compete with the rest of the business world.

(v)        Visibility:
The Public Cloud provides services that are standard, based on a ‘take it or leave it’ mechanism for which the governance is managed unilateral by the service provider and the visibility of the service is opaque (i.e., non-transparent). The Private Cloud provides a customizable service, based on a negotiable agreement for which the governance is managed bilateral by both parties and the visibility of the service is more transparent than Public Cloud services.
